Biography

Truls Moregardh was born on 16 February 2002 in Lessebo, Sweden. Recognizing his potential early, his family moved to Eslöv when he was just 12 years old to provide him with a better training environment, as Eslöv is home to one of Sweden’s top table tennis clubs, Eslövs AI BTK.

Moregardh first breakthrough came when he was just 14 years old when he earned silver medals at the  European Championships.  

 

At the 2024 Paris Olympics table tennis event, Truls Moregardh delivered a stellar run, upsetting world No. 2 and top seed Wang Chuqin in the round of 32. He then defeated Kao Cheng-Jui (round of 16), Omar Assar (quarter-finals), and Hugo Calderano (semi-finals) before losing to world No. 1 Fan Zhendong in the final. With his silver medal, Moregardh ended a 24-year drought for Sweden in men’s singles, becoming the first Swede to reach the podium since Jan-Ove Waldner won silver in 2000.

Truls Moregardh greatness continue when he won the Europe Smash 2025 held in his home country, Sweden. He defeated Lin Shidong 4–3 in a breathtaking final. With this win, Moregardh is the first every table tennis player from Europe to win a WTT Grand Smash –  the biggest tournament in the WTT series.

Moregardh is widely credited with popularizing hexagonal table tennis blades. He uses the Stiga Cybershape Carbon blade.

Moregardh has written a book with his Dad entitled Tänk som Truls (Think Like Truls) about how one can learn how to be mentally strong

Truls Moregardh has one of the most unconventional and intelligent playing styles in table tennis. He disrupts his opponents’ rhythm with a wide variety of shots. Among his signature weapons are the chop block and drop shot, which often throw opponents off balance.
