A smash in table tennis is a type stroke that hits the ball with so much power and with at little as spin. The racket is slightly open and directed to the ball instead of tangentially to the surface of the rubber. Once it hits the opponent’s side of the table, it will accelerate upwards instead of downward as in the case of a loop. The smash is best suited when there is an opportunity to end a rally such as wide a opening and the ball is relatively high.
