Wang Chuqin suffered another major upset of his young career. It can be remembered he lost to Truls Moregard in Round 32 of the Paris Olympics in the Singless Event. This time, he was defeated by Anders Lind in the Round of 32 at China Smash 2024, one of this year’s WTT Grand Smash events, the largest within the WTT series.

The match was closely contested, with Lind narrowly winning the first set 13-11. Wang bounced back to take the second set 11-9, but Lind dominated the third and fourth sets, winning 11-6 and 11-7 respectively. This defeat is particularly tough for Wang, given that the WTT Grand Smash is held in his home country and in front of his home crowd.

Lind had an incredible game. He was creative with his receive and his shots and often times caught Wang with powerful backhand shots to the wide forehand area. He almost won the 2nd set that could win him the game 3-0. Lind’s next opponent will be KAO Cheng-Jui of Chinese Taipei in the Round of 16 at China Smash 2024.

Wang Chuqin was coached by Wang Hao while Anders Lind was coached by Jonathan Groth. Anders Lind has a Youtube Channel where he shares table tennis tips and techniques.
