What are the pros and cons of a  high toss vs a low toss serve in table tennis? An example of a high toss serve is Hugo Calderano's serve while an example of a low toss serve is Timo Boll's serve

You can generate more spin with a high toss serve but it's also harder to execute. It can also mess up the opponent's timing because the ball can travel at a higher velocity. It can also be harder to control placement of the ball specially with a short serve.

Pros: More Spin, Can be deceptive

Cons: Harder to execute and control placement

With the high toss serve,  you can make very high speed and spinny serve directed at the elbow of the opponent  which catches him by surprise.

Jia Nan Yuan is very good at that even Chen Meng had difficulty of receiving it. Watch this game how many times Jia Nan Yuan set-up a high velocity serve right at the middle of the forehand of Chen Meng.

I don't have a high toss serve but I could imagine the added difficulty of keeping the ball as low as possible to the net.
