I find this video to be clear proof of why Lin Shidong's serve is illegal. Illegal serves are rampant these days, but what's annoying is that some players get penalized for it, while others just get away with it. It's such a double standard.
My controversial take: I think if the ITTF can't implement the rule properly (which they haven't for many years), they should drop the rule on 'hidden serves' completely.

Lin Shidong scored a lot of points last night with just his hook serve. I remembered Timo Boll calling the referee on Lin Shidong's hook serve in one of the WTT Champions tournaments.
