Biography
Wang Chuqin is a Chinese table tennis superstar who was born on May 11, 2020 in Jilin City, China. He is currently the world’s #1 table tennis player. He has won the World Table Tennis Championships in 2025 after beating Hugo Calderano in 2025. Wang is the most successful table tennis player in the WTT Series winning 4 Grand Smashes – the biggest table tennis WTT event. He has won a total of 18 senior titles – 14 WTT , 3 ITTF, and 1 Continental Games.
Wang had a frail physique and health as a young kid and prone to illnesses. His parents introduced him to table tennis at age seven to improve his overall health condition.
History of Injuries
In 2025, Wang Chuqin withdrew from his semi-final match against Truls Moregardh at the WTT Finals Hong Kong due to an apparent back injury. As a result, Moregardh automatically advanced to the finals to face Truls Moregardh .

Wang has represented China in biggest table tennis tournaments including the Olympics.
Wang was dealing with a lot of issues in the Paris Olympics. One that went viral was a photographer that stepped and broke the handle of his racket. In a Face to Face Interview with China Central Television, Wang Chuqin said he said the event affected his performance. He said it is important to have positive attitude because beliefs can shape your thoughts and mindset. He also said that he likes to stick with his routine. When he used his back up racket, it “feels different”. Believably so, Wang was not himself during the match with Truls Moregardh to which he lost. He was missing easy shots and couldn’t keep up with the rallies. He was eliminated early in the singles event in just Round 32.
Post Olympics, Wang Chuqin continued to struggle. He lost to Anders Lind in Round 32 of of the China Smash 2024. This series of events caused Wang to drop his world ranking from #1 to #2 in early 2025. Many fans were worried about his declining performance.
Comeback
Around May 2025, Wang Chuqin started pickup his game. He won ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Finals 2025 in Doha Qatar in May 2025 by beating Hugo Calderano 4-1. In July 2025, he won the United Smash 2025 after beating Tomkazu Harimo 4-0. In September 2025, he won the China Smash 2025 by beating Felix Lebrun 4-0. This helps Wang claim back the #1 position in the ITTF World Rankings Men’s Singles Ranking.
