Can someone explain how the point system works in ITTF rankings? For example, how many points are added to a table tennis player’s ranking when they win a medal in the Olympics? What about the World Cup? Is this information readily available?

I think I can give an overview.

So ITTF has rankings for singles, doubles and mixed doubles event. For a complete list of the  latest rankings, you can refer to here

The points they get depends on which event and which round they reached. The biggest points are awarded for the Olympic Games, WTT Grand Smash, and ITTF World Championship.

The following document shows the points for all events. Below is a  sample screenshot of the point system.

For example, whoever wins the gold medal match in the Olympics gets 2000 points. There are also other points awarded depending on which part of the tournament have you reached and obviously the higher the you ladder you reach the bigger the points.

For example, Fan Zhendong upset lost to Truls Moregard at Round 32 will still earn him 90 points based on the ITTF document.

Also when you go the official ITTF Ranking Page you can click on a player it will show a dropdown which displays all the details about the point such as the event , the date, and the exact amount of points rewarded

For example, in ITTF Men's Singles Ranking

Clicking to Wang Chuqin name will show this comprehensive details
